Yuba City Weight Loss Clinic
Families First Health Center provides a number of services to the good citizens in the greater Yuba City area, all of which are aimed at maintaining the good health of our neighbors in the community, at rates which are affordable for all. Apart from our Urgent Care and Yuba City Family Clinic facility, and such other day-to-day services as sports physicals, vaccinations, pediatric care, and infant care, we also offer a weight loss clinic at which people can trim down to a healthier weight, so as to avoid health complications further down the road.

Many of our weight loss patients come from the area surrounding Yuba City, including South Yuba City, Marysville, Tierra Buena, Linda, Olivehurst, and Binney Junction, and people from all these locations can easily reach our clinic by driving down State Road 20, State Road 70, or State Road 99. The first order of business at our weight loss clinic is to have a thorough evaluation of each patient who enters the program. We do not have a one-size-fits-all program of weight management at the Yuba City Weight Loss clinic, because we recognize that everyone is different, and that means that everyone has different reasons for being overweight.
During our initial consultation, and in follow-up exchanges, we make every effort to gain an understanding of the factors which led to the unwanted weight gain, whether that was from lack of exercise, slowing metabolism, or possibly even some psychological factors which contributed to the process. Only after working closely with an individual, can the reasons for weight gain be made clear, and once that has been established, a more effective program can be developed for counteracting those causes.

[accordion-item title=”Establishing realistic goals” tag=”h3″]
One of the things our Yuba City doctors, dietitians, and counselors will do for you is to help you establish realistic weight loss goals. Many people who are motivated to lose weight declare their intention to lose something like one-third of their total body weight, in an attempt to regain the profile they enjoyed during high school or at college. While these are admirable aspirations, for most people they are simply not realistic, nor are they necessary for you to achieve a happier, healthier version of yourself.
Far better is to set realistic and achievable goals which are more short-term in nature, because even a loss of 10 pounds can make a person feel much better and much healthier. A modest goal is something that does not seem overwhelming to a person, and because it seems more achievable, it can help to keep the patient on track and motivated to reach that objective.
If you were to set a goal of losing 75 pounds for instance, that would only be achievable after months or years of working toward a specific weight – but during all that time, it’s very easy for motivation to ebb, and the weight loss objective to be abandoned altogether. Smaller goals can be reached much faster, so there is positive reinforcement for the person who is working hard to reach a certain weight. It cannot be overstated how important it is to have positive feedback for all the hard work and sacrifice which is necessary to lose weight.

[accordion-item title=”Meal planning” tag=”h3″]
Meal planning is an area that our expert dietitians and counselors can help immensely with. We do not use the term ‘diet’, because dieting is something that will only work for a short period of time, if it works at all. After coming off any diet, the natural tendency is to revert to whatever eating habits may have contributed to weight gain in the first place.
It’s much better to plan meals rather than to diet, because planning is a different process entirely, and it does not have a termination point as dieting does. When people plan how they eat, it can be something that lasts a lifetime, and can certainly be continued after leaving Yuba City Weight Loss Clinic. When we talk about meal planning, we mean eating healthy foods of course, and replacing fatty and sugary foods with better choices like fruits, vegetables, and good proteins – but there’s more to it than that.
We also encourage all our weight loss patients to chew their food more slowly, and consider each bite for greater enjoyment – an approach known as ‘mindful eating’, which is the opposite of what many people do. Some people bolt their food down as quickly as possible, so they can move on to the next pressing activity in their busy life, or they eat a meal while also watching television or doing some other activity. The net result of that is that there is virtually no conscious enjoyment of the food being eaten, so it encourages more eating.
Excessively quick eating is also bad because it will probably cause someone to overeat before they even realize it. Since there’s a slight delay before the stomach notifies the brain that it’s full, it’s very possible to go right past the satisfied point before the brain receives the signal. That does not happen when a person eats more slowly and more deliberately.

[accordion-item title=”Education” tag=”h3″]
An important part of the whole weight loss process is becoming educated about doing things better, so that it becomes possible to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Our Yuba City counselors, dietitians, and doctors will provide the necessary education so that participants can have an understanding of how exercise, diet, attitude, good sleep, and self-care all contribute to the process of accomplishing desired objectives, and staying there once those goals have been achieved. In other words, patients are given the tools which will help them help themselves after they leave our clinic, and have to maintain themselves in the future.
